About the game:

The tournament is about to begin. Compete for your chance to be named to the Tidal Blades, an elite group that protects the island. Choose one of the four characters, each of whom have different starting skills and abilities. Each turn, your character visits an island location to collect resources, compete in Challenges, receive rewards, and gain power using - but watch out for those monsters. You may not be a Tidal Blade yet, but you have the chance to hone your skills on the attacking monsters too. The Tournament only lasts 5 days (rounds), and to win, you must compete in Challenges in 3 arenas, rise to the top of the Champion's Board, and keep the island safe from monsters.

There are plenty of decisions to be made in this game and balance to be struck between collecting resources, undertaking challenges, and getting your dice back after monster attacks. It's a great game for families, with lots of action to keep the game rolling. The game is competitive but not necessarily confrontational, as player interaction is limited other than the occasional "ha I got there first and blocked you" move. This also makes it a good choice for our Board's Edge families!

Note: playing alone or as a two-player game requires a dummy player (you can call him JARVIS), where you take set actions using AI-specific rules for the dummy.

Why we chose this for Board's Edge Games:
  • All the buzz, and Kickstarter cred too. This game reached its funding goal in 45 minutes!
  • Beauty - what an amazing design. The game designers went the extra mile here to create a gorgeous tropical island world. The artwork is just stunning. And for an added bonus, it reminds us of Wakka's village from Final Fantasy X
  • Strong introduction to more complicated game play. The core rules are straightforward, with a limited number of types of movements to make. There are optional advanced rules that add some complexity for more experienced players.
