Quick Takes: 5-10 players 30 minutes Ages 13+ Level 1 (easy to learn, easy to play, and FUN!)
Deduction, bluffing and betrayal - all the elements needed for a great game night party! In Avalon, players are all part of Camelot's court and either hold loyalty to King Arthur (the good guys) or are the evil minions of Mordred (aka evil do-ers).
The game is played out in rounds with a rotating leader who chooses other players to go on a mission with them. Twist 1: the team cannot go on a mission until everyone has voted and approved the team. Once the team is ratified, each person plays a card from their hand - success or fail. The good guys will always play success while the evil do-ers can play either. If one fail card appears, the whole mission is a dud. The game is played out over five missions and the first side to win three missions is almost the winner.
Almost you say? Yes, because in this hidden identity game, there are two special characters - Merlin, who knows everyone's role throughout the game, and The Assassin, who can redeem the evil do-ers at the end by correctly guessing Merlin and you guessed it - assassinating him. So much complexity for one little game. We are pretty sure your bluffing will be good enough for Texas Hold'em poker after a round or two of this game!
- Great for game night - fun warm up before a longer game or great introductory game to those less familiar with the joys of games as adults
- Merlin provides a really fun mechanic which makes the game a great mix of our favorites in this category (see above) as the objective is both to eliminate opponents and identify the special character (like in Werewords)
