Quick Takes: 2-7 players 30-45 minutes Ages 10+ Level 1 (easy to learn, easy to play, and FUN!)
You know that movie where an investigator is trying to solve a murder. She has a dream about a deer running through the woods, and then she wakes up and realizes with absolute clarity who the killer is. No? Don't worry, it won't happen in Mysterium either.
In Mysterium, most of your group plays as psychics staying in a haunted house, while one player is the ghost of the haunted house. The ghost gives dreams (or visions) to the psychics by selecting and playing bizarre yet beautiful cards with subjective art and no words. Using these clue cards, the psychics must determine the murder, murder location, and murder weapon. (If you're thinking right now that this is CLUE meets Dixit, you're right!). This is a cooperative game, so the ghost is on your team. Yes, even though they will inevitably give you cards that seem to make no sense, the ghost is trying to help you!
The core of this game plays a lot like Dixit, and in fact, some of us even put our Dixit cards into the Mysterium deck when we play. Mysterium is tailored to older kids and adults, and it adds a storyline to the experience of Dixit. Its spooky theme and set goal make it even more addictive than Dixit (and that's hard to believe!). Mysterium is easy to learn and fun to play. It hits all the right notes for groups: accessible, easy to teach, and easy to learn - no prior experience necessary. Ghost and psychic roles offer lots of puzzle opportunities.
Note: while the official rules allow for 2 players, we believe this one is best for 4 or more players.
