Quick Takes: 1-4 players 15-45 minutes Ages 12+ (note: mature content) Level 1 (easy to learn, easy to play, and FUN!)
This cooperative detective game is set in a whimsical city riddled with crime. The map is chock full of tiny details and awesome things to explore. Most cases start with a dead body and questions you need to answer in order to find the killer. There's even a crime to solve on the cover of the box!
Players work together to solve crimes on a massive map. The map is about 2.5' x 3.6'. The map displays a town in both space and multiple points in time. (Einstein would be proud! Finally a decent map of spacetime!). The victim appears in multiple spots on the map. The case cards and the route of the victim are key to determining what happened and solving the crime.
MicroMacro: Crime City is extremely accessible to all players. The first case walks you through the investigation process. The gameplay is intuitive and refreshing. There are 16 crimes to solve in the box. Once you're done, you can move on to the second game in the series if you want more content: MicroMacro: Crime City - Full House.
About that age range - at a quick glance, MicroMacro: Crime City seems like a game for families with kids. The whimsical art style and the inevitable comparisons to Where's Waldo reinforce this idea, and the publisher lists it for ages 12 and up. Most of the crimes to solve are murders, and a fair amount of those murders have mature motivations. We recommend checking out a parent's guide to this game before buying it for youngsters. MicroMacro: Crime City - Full House includes an icon so parents can screen crimes and choose which ones to play with their kids, so check that out as well.
