About the game:

Flamme Rouge is a bicycle racing game that is easy to pick up and play. The fundamental mechanics of the game are easily grasped by novice game players (and Tour de France fans!), but there is just enough depth to engage the more serious gamer. Each player controls their own team of two cyclists, and has to balance their cards between the two. You cannot look at your second card until you play something on your first cyclist, which adds an exciting mystery to your combination.

This game is an exceptional merge of theme and mechanics. The slipstream mechanic is the core of the game. Players separated from the pack get an exhaustion penalty, which clutters up your hand with garbage. But no one in the pack is going to win the race. The end result is a delicate balance, where each player tries to stay together as much as possible to prepare for the flat out sprint at the end. Going uphill is punishing, while going downhill feels powerful. Each mechanic plays out true to the theme and is intuitive even to those with no cycling knowledge.
