You had me at audio mystery, Ravensburger. Let's meet echoes.
echoes is a new twist on the mystery game. Your goal is to piece together a story by putting various audio clues together. In echoes, this is the story of the dancer and how she died. How does that work? The game uses a free app in combination with the cards inside the box. Players use the app and a phone camera to hover over images on the cards (just like using a QR code). This triggers an audio clip. The audio could be part of a conversation, music, background noise like a restaurant, or even sounds like footsteps. Solve mini chapters by putting the sound clips in the right order. Then figure out the right timeline for the whole story.
This is a creative and interesting way to play a mystery game or escape room game. Other mystery games we like, such as Exit: The Stormy Flight, have a similar concept but use paper clues like discs, wheels, and secret decoders. We've never seen something like echoes where the clues are audio-driven. That said, it can get repetitive to replay the audio over and over to figure out the right timeline, so we recommend having a notepad and pen nearby to take some quick notes.
While it's possible to replay this game, once you've solved the mystery, it's unlikely that you'd want to. We think of this as a one-time-use game.
- We're always on the hunt for something different, and we were thrilled to hear about this new immersive audio mystery.
- We're suckers for mystery games. Whodunit?
