We call these "New Classics." Like Catan, Dominion started a brand new genre of grown-up board games, and inspired a whole generation of game designers. Intrigue was the very first expansion to Dominion, quite a feat as the number of expansions today is 13! Meet the tenth expansion of the universe, Empires.
Empires introduces 24 new sets of Kingdom cards, along with some new mechanics. It also uses tokens and Events, which have made appearances in other Dominion expansions - tokens, for example, were included in Prosperity. It's probably one of the most complex expansions released in the Dominion universe. We recommend this for more advanced Dominion players for that reason.
Note: You must have the core game Dominion to play. This is an expansion only and does not have all the cards needed to play a game.
- We love Dominion so much, we had to have it!
- Gateway game - a good entry point into more complicated board games, this game features a lot of new rules/game playing styles but is still approachable for newbies
- According to the secret history of Dominion that creator Donald Vaccarino posted at Board Game Geek, Empires started out as a kind of sequel to one of our absolute favorite expansions, Dominion: Prosperity. No wonder we love this one!
