Robin Hood and Little John running through the forest...
The setting is England in 1193, and as we all know, the county of Nottinghamshire suffers under the yoke of evil Prince John and his henchmen, like the Sheriff. In The Adventures of Robin Hood, players take on the role of Robin Hood and his merry band of companions. In this choose your own adventure story, there are no set paths for Robin Hood and friends. The board changes over the course of each adventure, and the movement of the characters is handled via an innovative mechanism that uses wooden character pieces (aka meeples) with different lengths. Various actions and secrets are integrated into the game levels and are revealed only in the course of the story.
Yes, this is a legacy game. The game board "remembers" what players have already explored or found, and thanks to the special materials, the entire game can be set up and dismantled quickly. Instead of using cards as in the author's Legends of Andor, the game tells the story of Robin Hood in a high-quality hardcover book. (See pictures to see the book, but don't worry - yours will be in English. This game is too new to have stock photos of the English pieces!). We have to admit, it's pretty cool.
Legends of Andor remains one of the best games we've ever played (read our review). It's hard to find something that tops it (or even plays like it at all). That's why we were thrilled that game designer Michael Menzel made another cooperative family game - Robin Hood! Sign us up!
- Choose your own adventure. How the story unfolds depends on your own decisions as a player.
